EMERGENCIES IN OCCUPATIONAL MEDICINE

Occupational Health Practitioners pay a lot of attention to common anticipated hazards and risks that arise from workplaces. Unfortunately, the emergencies due to the work are not given much attention.

Sudden and acute health incidents in the workplaces that require immediate attention due to exposure to physical hazards such as heat or changes in the atmospheric pressure are part of occupational medicine emergencies.

It requires multi-disciplinary management, including timely first-aid treatment and immediate referral for further management.

The follow-up procedures such as rehabilitation, long-term surveillance, and counselling for mental health especially for workers affected by traumatic events are essential.
